Longside

Longside is a village located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It lies seven miles inland from Peterhead and two miles from Mintlaw on the A950. Its population in 2001 was 721. The River Ugie flows through it[1]

It has the local Longside Parish Church, Longside Primary School,Longside Golf Club and Longside FC, a junior football club. The Longside golf club was opened in 1979 and extended to 18 holes in 1996. The village consists of one single street.

History

There is considerable evidence of prehistory in the nearby area, most notably in the form of the Catto Long Barrow and numerous tumuli.[2]

Queen played a concert in the village social club.

Longside was a station on the Buchan and Formartine railway line up until the service was terminated due to money cuts in the 1960s. The platform can still be seen situated adjacent to the golf course.
